During 2019, Together We Build It (TWBI) launched HUMAN awareness campaign on the topic of human security from a contextualized point of view. This campaign is in partnership with Human Security Collective (HSC) organisation and part of a bigger project “Women and Youth as Bridge Builders” program under The Netherlands 1325 NAP.
Human campaign, focused on identifying key elements that are needed in the daily life of Libyan citizens and how’s it’s directly related to their own well being. While also differentiating between softy and hard security measures. Allowing the community and relevant actors to be more aware about what does security truly consist of? And what are the steps we can can take to ensure it in the community?
A. WHAT’S SECURITY?
Developed a public survey to measure community’s understating of the word (Security):
The implementation of this activity was during times of escalated conflict, we have mapped the context and society’s needs. Which based on we have developed a set of questions that helps define, and stimulate the society’s understanding of the human security concept. The questions were launched in an online survey on our social media platforms, which we were able to reach many people around the country. The survey focused on 3 main point:
1. How people in Libya find the concept of Human Security familiar?
2. Do people in Libya accept Human security as a concept?
3. Are people in Libya willing to work for applying this concept in Libya?
B. Learning By Doing
Organised a private competition targeting Libyan civil society organizations from across Libyan:
Phase one: Selection and preparation of the competition material:
A group of civil society activists were chosen and put together on an online platform from different regions from Libya, where we provided them with an online package that helps identify human security from a context specific point of view. The online package provided contained 4 main documents:
1. Identification of the Human Security concept and its pillars.
2. Identifying Human Security pillars from a contextualized perspective and analysis.
3. Human security tools and exercises to help design and implement community focused projects.
4. Online resources related to the Human security concept and its pillars.
Phase two: Distribution of material among the participants:
As a next step we have assisted the participants to understand the topic more by conducting several online meetings, where we explained more about the material content and the process.
Phase three: Case study practice:
We have distributed a unified case study addressing a certain issue and asked the participants to design an initiative that can solve it. This allowed them the chance to apply what they have learned and integrate the concept of human security critically while solving issues and designing projects. To encourage participants to apply this concept within their projects, a competition has been designed at the end to choose one winner. This learning by doing mechanism will encourage the participated CSOs to implement what they have learnt in future projects and initiatives.
