Women were active agents of change and mobilization in the uprisings that swept across #Libya and #Yemen. However, as the uprisings metastasized into militarized crises, women in these countries are facing similar and ever-growing levels of insecurity and violence, and share the same disappointment in the rapidly shifting global political landscape that permitted destructive economy of wars to prevail over sustainable peace and rule of law.
WILPF, the host organization of the event in Geneva and our international partners, conducting analytical session based on study and local consultations with women leaders.
Inas, speaking on behalf of “Together We Build It” taking as reference a study done recently by “Together We Build It” where part of it was conducted through online surveys under hashtag #Libiyat_Together (See here for more) to reach out for the largest number possible of women. And to our surprise we received about 1000 response from different Libyan women within 3 days only.
Inas, spoke about the current situation and it effects on the Libyan women, their lives and roles as part of the community. She also pointed out in her statement regarding how the UN is dealing with this issue “Women are important advocates for peace at the local level in Libya, the UN has no excuse to exclude us.”
